Day One

The first hurdle was Heathrow Airport. With hindsight carrying laptops for my school on a cycle challenge was a little ambitious, particularly as I hadn't realised that 7Kg maximum hand luggage  included laptop weight, and we had to carry a bicycle through too. Not much opportunity to meet my fellow travellers as I chased around Heathrow retrieving a checked in bag and Siobhan helpfully took the computer. Many hours later we had our first glimpse of Africa, a drizzly day in Addis Ababa colder than in Scotland.

However in Lilongwe the sun was shining and we were on our way to Cape Maclear with 13 bicycles in beautiful cardboard boxes.
All very exciting!
The only mishap a flat tyre on the 3.5 hour drive to Cape Mac Lodge.
But an opportunity to stretch our legs before arriving in the dark. Only 13 bicycles to assemble tomorrow before we set off on our first day.
